Answer: "Part of what inspired me to become a teacher was my grandmother. She was always very patient and kind with me. Her home was a place of refuge.
One teacher in high school particularly inspired me. She looked like a hawk with a sharp, pointed nose and beady brown eyes that seemed to see straight through my face into my brain. She pushed and pulled until I produced work beyond what I ever thought I was capable of doing. Some days I dreaded going to her class, but I still remember the day she said I had achieved what none of her students had achieved before me. I still get a warm feeling inside when I think of that day.
My goal as a teacher is to push and pull my students until they achieve higher than they every thought possible. They often surprise themselves! Sometimes they even surprise me!
